What Happens When you Give a Team of Educators a Personality Test?
Living Learning English and Academic Summer came together for our annual staff get together — the first time as sister companies. We wanted to do something a little different to help our two teams really get to know each other. We took part in an Insights Discovery team-building session led by Simon Casebourne from The Ethical Leader. It was brilliant.

Insights Discovery uses a four-colour framework — Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green and Cool Blue to help people understand how they communicate, collaborate and work best. Each team member received their own personalised profile and there was a lot of nodding, a few surprises and more than one moment of "that is so you!"
As Helen said: “It was a great reminder of how important it is to support each other and really understand the people we work with.”
Two Teams, Stronger Together
With Academic Summer and Living Learning English coming together as sister companies, this was the perfect moment to build something deeper than a working relationship. We wanted to get to know each other and understand each other, and this session gave us exactly that. We are an international team from 11 different nationalities between us.
One team member summed it up perfectly: "I finally understand why our team works so well. We are different, but our differences are our strengths."
Simon put it beautifully too: “Self-awareness is the foundation of leadership. When we are more aware of our own preferences and communication styles, we can connect more effectively with others. That is how high-performing teams are built.”

Why this matters?
Here is the thing. Everything we learned that day connects directly to what we teach our students every summer. Self-awareness, emotional intelligence, resilience and leadership are part of our Be a Leader programme. We are not just facilitators of learning, we are learners too. There is always something to learn and learning is enjoyable not only just sitting in a classroom.
After all that self-discovery, we also laughed together, and we did plenty of that as we enjoyed some karaoke. We were practicing for the summer and our evening activities!
As Helen put it: "There are always challenges, but there are always opportunities too. What we need to do as a team is work together, support each other and keep moving forward."
We left with new insights, stronger connections and a renewed energy for everything 2026 has in store.
